Summer Sky

The sovereign sun
paints in gold
the flowers and the fields,
and the drifting soft clouds
bring the shining rain
to tempt the earth that yields.
Jupiter casts a million stars
that shower the sapphire sea,
broken only by the burning rocks
the yellow sand and quiet hills of green.
Where rolls the chariot moon
of honey brass bold stone,
to set the darkening sky
in fiery red and gold.
Where walks the night
upon the smoky air that gleams,
in star spangled light and
distant dust of dreams.
