Sunday Morning Comics

Sunday Morning Comics

Li'l Abner with his sweetheart wee Daisy Mae
And Mammy and Pappy Yokum
Delighted us every Sunday morning way back when
These days long forgotten by some

To an old codger like me, seems like just last Sunday
Giggling at their ridiculous antics
My how time flies at such an amazing speed
Gonna check out more stuff in my attic

Dagwood and Blondie. and Little Orphan Annie
Katzenjammer Kids, Tarzan, Superman too
With all these funny characters from my childhood days
Get nostalgic and start singing the blues

Every grown up has old memories that they cherish
Mine were very happy young years
In spite of World War II going on overseas
Was protected from anxiety and fear

Must thank my dearly departed Mum and Dad
For shielding me from the horror of the times
Food was rationed, needed stamps to buy groceries
But could get loads of candy for a dime

Delightful times for us young'uns back then
Routing for the good guys to win
Little did we know the consequences at stake
Too young to know the dangers therein

But through it all the good of humanity prevailed
Crushed the foe and saved the earth
From a fate of indescribable suffering and injustice
And we're still all free from birth
