Susan- Vermeer- And Me

Inspired by Johannes Vermeer- The greatest artist in history

I spoke with Linda’s sister Susan, about a month ago;
She told me of a special Exhibition, where she was going to go!
It’s at The National Gallery in Washington, until January’s end;
They are showing Vermeer and his Followers, great museums sent works to lend!
.
To me, Vermeer is the greatest artist, the Master of using light;
Only thirty-seven works exist today, none others brought to sight!
I also love many of his followers, like Metsu and Ter Borch;
I have marveled at their magnificence, my Soul they’ve often scorched!
.
I told Susan she was so fortunate, to see those World-famous oils;
The most renowned of the Period, collected by the Royals!
I thought about driving to D.C., but the cost would be too high;
Sometimes, one must be frugal, and certain pleasures, self deny!
.
So I called Susan after she had been there, to enjoy it vicariously;
She said that it was stunning, and a shame that I could not see!
But last week, outside our front door, a box was resting there;
Dear Susan had sent me this gorgeous Catalogue, of all these paintings very rare!
.
It’s beauty is breathtaking, the illustrations seem so real;
It’s the next best thing to being there, such happiness I feel!
So thank you my Dear Susan, for bringing the Exhibition to my door;
I will cherish it forever, and in my heart will keep it stored!
