The Thanksgiving Day parade

I texted you “I will see you at 9am”
Even though I would have rather been lazy
And watch it from the comfort of my own couch
I went to bed thinking, “I must be crazy”
Maybe in the deli is where we should have stayed
Because to get to the floats there was a barricade
And the tourists did invade
New York City during the Thanksgiving Day parade
To see Snoopy
And Spiderman
And Pikachu
But I wouldn’t have went without you

I met you outside the Mony building
In the middle of Broadway and 57th street 
But before we went and joined the chaos
We stopped into a deli to get a bite to eat  
Maybe in the deli is where we should have stayed
Because to get to the floats there was a barricade
And the tourists did invade
New York City during the Thanksgiving Day parade
To see Snoopy
And Spiderman
And Pikachu
But I wouldn’t have went without you

The weather was cold but not freezing
I even brought tissues even though I wasn’t sneezing
I even brought a scarf expecting the worst
Imagining how people handle the thirty first
Of December when they run to Times Square
With thoughts of a New Year and Jack Frost in the air
But even if it wasn’t cold that November  
It was a Thanksgiving I will always remember

After the parade I said, “Have you ever been kissed
In New York City?” hoping you would say, “Nope”
But you said, “Yes” and I said, “Really?”
You then said, “Don’t you remember last night, you dope?”
