That’s The Last Straw
Three cheers for you Seattle, for just passing an amazing law;
At the end of June, it becomes illegal, to use any plastic straws!
Four hundred million of them, are tossed in America each day;
Many become debris in our lovely oceans, as they’re thrown so carelessly away!
.
The “Lonely Whale” activists, a Seattle environmental group;
Lobbied hard to get this statute passed, a monumental coup!
Nearly ninety percent of refuse, that floats in our trash-filled seas;
Is discarded bits of plastic, that pollutes and kills fishies!
.
2018 is the year of reformation, to stop these senseless acts of disdain;
By using paper bags and metal straws, and from plastic to refrain!
Each city needs to do their part, no time to hem and haw;
Ban that which is destroying Her, give Mother Nature, her final straw!
.
.
Straw and plastic bags
No longer will trash our seas
Banned forever

Hi Greg,
When they say it's a "Plastic World", few people realize the gravity of that statement.
I hope we are not too late to save our environment.
Love,
Larry xxx
What wonderful news. Let's hope lots of other places soon follow suit.
It's a charming poem. I like it lots!
Dear Amanda,
I hope that the whole World starts making these drastic changes.
Maybe it's not too late to save our beautiful oceans.
Thank you for your lovely comment.
You are up and running now girl!
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
P.S. Love your new label. Sounds really classy.
Hello Larry...
More glass then?
Metal straws not a much better thought...
The stealers of the Earth that's still okay?
Littering?
I've said it before I'll say it again...
People are nuts!
Can't properly through away trash now we'll have more things to be disturbed...
Can't stop the madness...
Take away straws...
Brilliant...
Still, no common sense...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs...

My Dear Sweet Sparrowsong,
From what I've read about the metal straws, they would not be discarded. They would be the property of the establishment, just like the silverware. For people who were afraid that they would not be sanitary, they could bring their own. Another thing they have been toying with are edible straws, possibly made out of fruit. It's a work in progress. It is such a shame that every establishment in the World, does not have to comply to strict recycling regulations. But, ending plastic disposal, would take care of 90% of the oceans pollution.
As for the advertisement, we have not seen it, because we tape everything on television that we watch, then circumvent the laborious commercials.
Thank you for your very thought-provoking comment.
Hugs and Love,
Larry xxx
*through throw
P.S. The advertisement on T.V. where the baby keeps throwing down the pacifier and the dog gets it...
Mom orders more...
The same baby throws her sippy cup in the mud and Mom walks away and orders more...
That's a wonderful message, don't you think?
Hugs...

Hello Larry...
You may not see it but, other people see it...
You're one in billions...
Everyone's going back to cloth diapers?
No more femine products?
Shampoo bottles?
Medicine bottles?
Plastic straws is the major problem?
Don't want to fill the land fill?
Everyone should have burn barrels with the proper lids and burn the trash when it's safe to do so...
See something on the ground pick it up...
Throw it away properly...
I find your straw figures kind of strange where I find more beer bottles, cans, paper all over the place and there might be one straw...
Maybe, if people did what they should do we wouldn't have this problem...
Hugs again...
P.S. I can't tell you how many fast food restaurants and gas stations I have seen with trash overflowing and falling out of the containers and some parts of the country is very windy...
But, no more plastic straws amazing law...
You're right we should all be jumping for joy!
☺
Hi Larry, I hope the whole world will follow...
One of the fastfoods at the station in the Netherlands gives 50 percent discounts for every purchase if you bring your own coffee cup... recycling is also another option.
I use a bamboo basket because plastic bag costs 25 cent ...
In my time people used old newspaper and banana leaves.
Thanks for sharing.
