The 80's

An era that defined.
Awareness worldwide
Now in time.
Distance closer
Than our clocks
Fluorescent socks
And tie dye tops.
Drum machines and synthesisers
Game shows with their massive prizes
Jukeboxes in smoke filled pubs
Frankie says and culture club.
Girls just wanna have some fun
Walking like an Egyptian
The A team could help solve your problem
Underground, if you could find them.
Feed the world and save the panda
Highlighted by propaganda
Colour tv's and telephone lines
Connecting homes and all our lives.
A backwards glance of bygone days
Some of which I liked
My fondest though, I have to say
My friends and riding bikes.

Hello John...

The 80's great time indeed!

No School Uniforms and no time out of school for shootings and bombings...

Just your typical teachers conferences, snow days, and in the summer well, I won't go there...

?

Roller Skating and having fun at the Arcade...

Great write!

Thank you for sharing and the memories...

Hugs...

very cool write, John Coggins, great decade, and terrible decade, the death of John Lennon, the fall of the Berlin wall, so much 'great' music, so much awe -full 'corporation' music, and a lifetime in between....I like your recollections, great idea for a poem, so well executed, cheers poet....thanks for bringing some memories

Thank you so much Christopher Correia! I'm overjoyed by your reaction, and I'm pleased it helped conjure some common memories, good and bad! Where would we be without the 80's??
Much love.

I was just a kid in the 80s but one thing I do remember was the dreadful pop music lol. The counter culture music was good though The Stone Roses & Happy Mondays. Good poem - Syd

Thank you so much Lodigiana! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it, and loved your verse! There is so much about that era that incites nostalgia within those of us that lived it, I almost feel guilty of making it so short, as it could have gone on, and on!lol! However, I'm aware that overkill can ruin a nice idea, so kept it short and sweet.
Much love.

I love the '80s,  I was in my prime,  the happy go lucky,  the discos, being glued to my Law books,  " Red letter day ",
You only need some notes and BRAVO,  you've just written a nice song!!!

congrats on the nomination
