The Addiction

A fictional poem about the consequences of gambling.

The Addiction

My friends found it amusing but my wife didn't think it was funny.
I played cards with the guys once a week and I lost a lot of money.
My wife said that she wouldn't put up with it anymore.
I couldn't stop gambling and she walked out the door.
I also lost money when I went to the horse track.
My wife left me and she won't be coming back.
I finally realized that I was addicted to gambling, it was something I learned.
I got the help that I needed but my wife is gone forever, she will never return.
When I gambled everything away, it made my marriage fall apart.
My wife meant everything to me and I'm trying to nurse my broken heart.
As each day passes by, life gets harder and tears roll down my face.
By gambling, I lost money and my beloved wife and it's a disgrace.
If you gamble, the same thing might happen to you.
Give up gambling because it's an ignorant thing to do.
