The Apple So Sweet

The taste of honey on an english muffin toasted and warm
The tick tock sound of the wall clock
The robins nest in the lilac tree, she feeds her young of three
A freshly cut lemon I squeeze into my hot ginger tea
I begin to write a short letter to my son the Marine
It has been exactly a year now when he enlisted, I cried a goodbye
Now he is stationed sixteen hundred miles away
Each day I pray for his safety, I look at pictures of him growing up from a baby
He will always be my baby and now a young man proud to serve his country
My last line before I lick the envelope and put on the stamp
My son how I love you each day each night and I kiss your picture every evening before I turn off the lamp
You are everything great and I am so proud to be your mother each and every day
As I take another bite of the apple so sweet
I feel good inside for you are the apple of my eye
