Poem -

the best is yet to come

the best is yet to come

I'm saving
all the good that's in me
my caring, my understanding
the love
I have yet to feel
the warmth of my arms
the tenderness of my hands and
the verses that no one
has heard from me

every picture, every lamp
everything is in its place
I keep the curtains open and
by the windows
butterflies are already flying
daffodils
have started to bloom and
shining, ever so happy
the sun of April afternoons

if melancholy
boredom or despair
ever assail me
pretending to spoil
my good mood
with the radio, I chase them away
while I seem to hear
songs that speak to me of you and
the things you do

I'm saving
all the good that's in me
my good love, my happy days
although, with every beat
of my hopeful heart
I know the best of me
is yet to come
when you arrive
