Poem -

The broken promise

You once told me to run
Towards the new dawn
Take my direction
Follow my path
I only wish I knew where it lead

You once told me to fall
Only to get up and face it all
Fight your battles
Stand your ground
I only wish I knew what I was fighting for

You once told me to cry
Only to help me realise
That every tear shed
Is a reason to go on
I only wish I knew the reason

I once told you I've had enough
Too old and not so tough
Walls I built
Have crumbled around me
I'm too old to rebuild them now

We once agreed, out of sorrow
To always lead. Never follow
But I fell behind
Now I'm catching up
But I can't catch up to you.

This birds wings have been clipped
There's no wind to carry me on
So I'll wait and bide my time
Eventually
I'll reach that new dawn
