The Brotherhood

The Brotherhood

My nephew invited me to speak at the meeting,
the music of Duran Duran eased in background;
'Gentlemen, it's an honour to address illuminati,'
'Poetry's not all the same now as it used to be.'

Paradise: 'What's your idea say of utopian bliss,'
'A passionate embrace together topped with a kiss,'
'Or sipping a brandy and smoking a nice thin cigar,'
'Dreaming on a warm summer's evening under a star.'

I no longer wandered thro' a host of golden daffodils,
but found I'm no longer lonely as a cloud that time fills;
we approach heaven where the bread is unleavened,
your time was shortened and forgot the love to send.

I'm pleased to have been with nice people who smile,
and have ability to forget their sharpness for a while.
