The Butterfly

A butterfly landed at my side one day;
Confident and resolute -
As if to say 'I'm here'.
No breeze could move that butterfly -
Even if it wanted to.
I looked at it for a short while:
Wings symmetrically speckled,
The brightest orange I ever saw.
Still, it did not move.
Tentatively, I offered a finger.
Quickly, the butterfly accepted -
Spindly little legs like
whiskers on my skin.
Oh, the ephemeral joy!
Soon losing interest,
I urged the butterfly to go.
But no matter what I did,
She would not fly away.
This was the most
Ethereal thing I had ever seen.
After a while,
Once the silence became too loud,
The butterfly took off,
Circling me once
Before saying goodbye.
I learned so much that day.
But most of all,
I learned to stop pushing people away.

Nicely done....enjoyed...Thank you
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
My Sweet Samantha,
WOW! I've just read this beautiful poem, and was amazed that on June 10th, I too wrote one called "The Gentle Butterfly". I absolutely adore this work of yours. I can feel the same emotions about those gentle little creations, that sadly only live for an average of thirty days. You have portrayed their beauty so perfectly, and brought tears to my eyes. You are a sweet, gentle, loving soul.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Oh Larry, thank you so much for understanding perfectly what I was trying to portray here. Life is too short. You brought tears to my eyes with this lovely comment. I'm heading over to check out your butterfly poem now xxx
Sweet Samantha, you have again brought tears to my eyes too.
