The Calming Sea

I've always been at sea, I know how awesome it can be,
I've seen it still and smooth as glass, a calming effect on me,
The ripples are symmetric, from the origin it does roll,
They follow each other to the beach, or where ever it finds it's goal.
What is hidden underneath us, what treasures lie down there,
We sail around from here to there, and sail on without a care,
Are we sailing over history, something important not yet discovered,
Maybe we will find out later, another shipwreck's been uncovered.
Countless men have lost their lives, their shipwreck is their tomb,
The last thing that they would of heard, was the sound of gunfire, Boom,
Their memories followed them with them, brave souls before the fall,
They were fathers, brothers and uncles, and the sea just claimed them all.
I look at the sea and wonder, are there mermaid's swimming around,
No solid evidence has proven this, they might be there, unfound,
Do they watch us cruise around, and why do they stay away?
Maybe I will meet one, when I'm old, I'd like to see that one day.
Dolphins make me smile, when I am having a bad run,
They jump along the bow waves, and generally have some fun,
I see whales and calves migrating, and heading down the coast,
The day that I leave the sea, will be the day I miss the most.
