The Catalyst

The end of you was the start of me, for ever since you left;

My broken heart has felt such pain, my life is so bereft!

But through it all my once empty hand, now in it holds a pen;

Because of you and the love I’ve lost, I’m writing once again!

For fifty years those odes I felt, lay dormant in my heart;

But the night you passed it broke in two, and these lyrics then did start!

They tell of all you did for me, your devotion undenied;

The only place you’d want to be, was right there at my side!

Your love for me was off the charts, and so was mine for you;

Never had I felt like this, each day my feelings grew!

Our souls were joined the day we met, they blended instantly;

As both them knew they’d met their mate, and together ever be!

But now you’re gone I write these odes, dripping dirges from my heart;

The melancholy melodies that weep since we had part!

You’ve become my very catalyst, but will always be my mate;

For you’ll dwell forever in my soul, as you, I recreate!
