THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

While you were asleepĀ
I was pouring out my heartĀ
On my cracked iPadĀ
As I lay in the darkĀ
The thoughts I express
May not impress youĀ
But they are my thoughtsĀ
And every word is trueĀ
I am aware that at sunriseĀ
When you open your eyesĀ
You will sit as judge and juryĀ
Over the things I have saidĀ
But keep in mindĀ
That they were born in my heartĀ
And not in my head
I seek no special treatmentĀ
But to be understoodĀ
You can start by forgetting about skin colorĀ
And my neighborhoodĀ
So may your judgement be righteousĀ
And your thoughts be pure
Remember someone is judging youĀ
And you would not want to beĀ
Misunderstood.
