The Climber

The Climber

Upon the sharp cliff
through the grit and mist,
my trembling hands
caress her savage kiss.

The rabid wolf
upon the heel,
jagged rock fangs
bite the bloodied fist.

The sun and wind
have left me raw,
upon her slender
pillared waist where
eagleĀ“s shadows soar.

Calloused fingers
tendons taut,
in silent freedom
she implores.

And the Raven
a scavenger of the light,
a black rag across the eyes
a death knell upon a stone pew.

Her rising dust
upon the sun and air,
her face a gaze
of beautiful hue,
upon a cloud that holds
the sky and dew.

Hi Marion! Hope you are very well. I appreciate your lovely comment, thank you! I recommend rock climbing if you get the opportunity, it opens up a whole new world of appreciation for the natural world. ItĀ“s not just the climbing but the beautiful places and people it takes you too. Go for it Marion! Take care! xx

Being Me

my trembling hands

Only a mountain can give a kiss like this!Ā  A wonderful poem Tony! Some great lines. I especially like this:

And the Raven
a scavenger of the light,
a black rag across the eyes
a death knell upon a stone pew.

Fantastic imagery. Love this and pinned because its brilliant. I am so sorry it has taken me this long to see it and read itāš˜x

Hi Tina! Great to hear from you and read your lovely comment. IĀ“ve had plenty of savage kisses from the mountains and been spat out many times too. Ravens are a constant companion so i had to include them in the poem. Very happy that you enjoyed reading it. Thank you dear friend! xxx

Being Me

You are most welcome. It is always a privilege reading your lovely work. I went rock climbing and abseiling as a kid...not mountaineering I know...but it was fun...so this did speak to me. These days I am not good with heights though. I really enjoyed your poem āš˜x
