THE DARK AND LONELY NIGHT (Insomnia)

And the clock ticks,Its like a heartbeat, it hurts my ears
I am tired, sleep alludes,I am weary, near to tears
The minutes seem like hours,as peace I try to find
no such luck! as thought after thought flood my mind
I listen to the howling wind, as it rattles the window pane
I hear the spitter spatter of something, is it rain or is it hail
I get up look through the window, but why did I have to know?
I should,nt be awake at 4am! listening to rain and the wind blow
I ve put lavender drops on my pillow, I ve read, still I toss and turn
I get up again, make a milky drink oh Dear god! its sleep I yearn
Now its dawn, birds sing, and my bedroom is filled with light
not one wink have I had! all through the dark and lonely night.
It has now been twenty three hours, without an ounce of sleep
I,did everything to relax, including counting, hundreds of sheep
I am shattered I am disorientated, but my day ahead is full
I manage to get through it,with a brain that feels like cotton wool
Then again comes the night, I am so tired,I retire to my comfy bed
But the ticking of the clock hurts my ears, and once more the thoughts
start running through my head.......

Dear Poet Sister DEBS!!
So glad to see you on the pages...,. perhaps not under these circumstances however (depending on whether or not this write is fact based)...... regardless, ~ some of the phrasing here is truly inspired:
"I manage to get through it, with a brain that feels like cotton wool"
I recently had to go to the doctor for insomnia ~ I couldn't sleep for three days and I began hallucinating ~ TRULY frightening stuff!!

Hi Dear friend I have always been a night bird up till early
hours but just lately I have been having one or two nights when
I am awake all night I snatch maybe two hours in the day
but that s it, it really is horrible. Sorry to hear you have had to have Meds
to remedy it, I was in a car accident Three weeks ago it was minor
but scary had whiplash and back pain, of course anxiety was a little worse
so i m putting it down to that before I try any Meds myself
Thank you for your lovely comments

Hello Sis Debs...
Glad you're back!
Clocks that tick I can't sleep when I hear it...
Tick Tock Tick Tock...
Oh No No No!
Then the good 'ol COOKOO COOKOO!
When I'm not trying to sleep they can make all the noise they want...
When I'm trying to sleep it's time to pull the plug or remove the batteries when I'm awake they can live again...
?
Sorry you're struggling with this and I'm sorry you got into an accident...
Glad you're okay!
Great write!

The clock ticking in the early hours is a sound to go slowly mad to!
You give us a full and detailed picture of a sleepless night; such detail that can only be drawn from experience, alas.
So glad to see you back...especially on hearing that you'd been in an accident!
An engaging and entertaining read.
Take care, Debs.
All my love,
J xxx
Hi J Yes that ticking clock drives you mad for sure
and checking what the time is too.
Thank you for your welcome back
and your kind words
Love and best wishes to you

Hi Deborah, great poem on insomnia. I too have trouble sleeping, I've always been that way since I was a kid. Sometimes it's the thought of having to get up for work that keeps me awake even longer lol. Take care - Syd
My Dear Debs,
I've missed you. I'm just inching my way back on Cosmo, because Linda is able to give me a little time now to do so, being that this old fool is computer illiterate. I've just read this powerful poem, and give you my usual poetic response.
.
When the darkness comes and I should sleep
My brain won't stop, up me it keeps
I try everything that one can do
To make slumber somehow then ensue
.
But as the darkness turns to light
Again I've been up most the night
I drag myself and leave the bed
Til evening comes, bringing thoughts I dread
.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
