The Darling Buds Of May

The Darling Buds Of May

When a young man's fancy turns to thoughts
of many things: travel to the stars, bars on Mars,
the Russian lady cosmonaut he met travelling
from Earth, who asked: 'What do you think you're worth?'

I said that I'm cool from the training, happy
that I'm gaining, now looking for virus-free worlds;
we looked back at Earth, all the squabbling and lies,
surely it couldn't be now when humanity dies.

No, Svetlana brought my mind back on track,
as we narrowly missed a flying Chinese almanac;
my life ahead of me, as we travelled distantly,
now I knew, I was going where I wanted to be.

Such a change from  the Earthly spring and May,
let's hope that we come back with good news one day.
