The Dawn Of My Father's Dreams

The Dawn Of My Father's Dreams

Photograph of my parents Wedding Day, June 11,1942.  Dad on a weekend furlough.
.
It was June of nineteen forty-one, a moonlit starry night;
My father and his best friend Sam, were downtown Philly to see the sights!
They ended up at The Club Bali, to dance and watch the show;
But fate had a big surprise for Dad, that changed his lifestyle so!
.
For he was a real smooth talker, always a girl upon his arm;
He dressed like Mr. GQ, all part of his vast charm!
He made a lot of money, bought and sold old x-ray film from hospitals;
He drove a brand-new Chrysler, his pockets always full!
.
He knew the Maitre D there, so they got a front row seat;
The curtain raised, and out they came, two beauties with tap-shoed feet!
They called themselves “The Dawn Sisters”, my father’s eyes popped out;
For one of them made his heart pound, “Bravo”, he’d stand and shout!
.
After their act had ended, he invited them to have a drink;
Their names were “Arlene” and “Sherry”, my father was on love’s brink!
For Arlene was so damn beautiful, the woman of his dreams;
And she also felt the same way, that they made a gorgeous team!
.
The rest was unavoidable history, the “Dawn Sister” became Mrs. Ran;
He had found his wife forever, and she had found her man!
They never parted company, together for thirty-seven years;
Until too early, his heart gave out, then for twenty-six, my Mom shed tears!
.
.
On a starry night
Dad saw a beautiful Dawn
And they fell in love

Hello Larry...

Beautiful tribute!

It pained me to lose both of y parents 2 months apart in 2004...

But, if they saw this stuff happening today...

Oh nevermind!

Hugs...

My Dear Sparrowsong,

That is so sad.  How long were they married?  Oft times, when one Soulmate passes, the other one will soon follow, their will to live dying with their true love.
I agree with you.  It's amazing the changes in the last fifteen years.

Love,
