THE DAY FOREVER PAUSED
RUNNING OUT OF TIME

It seemed like foreverÂ
The train was stoppingÂ
Every fifteen minutesÂ
And I was becoming very restlessÂ
The engineers mumblingÂ
Did not arrest my anxietiesÂ
Hoping to make it to the city ofÂ
Tasmania's Eggs and Bacon Bay
By five PM on April fools dayÂ
The wild flowers of this little townÂ
Was beyond exquisiteÂ
Its petals reflecting the sunshineÂ
And is absolutely amazingÂ
At this time of yearÂ
Or so I've been toldÂ
My grandmotherÂ
Could never stop talkingÂ
About this distant land that capturedÂ
Her very soul while stumbling on it
During the painstaking years
Of the Great Depression in the 1930s.Â
I would sit at her feet in awe
As she tells of this fairy tale city
Her eyes sparklingÂ
Like the galaxies of the nights sky
Showing off their seductive dance
Of a million twinkles per secondÂ
Now it was my turnÂ
To embrace my childhood dreamÂ
But the train like a sloth at its best sprint
Held me captive without reasonÂ
As my oxygen tank gageÂ
Reminded me of my fading health.
