The days of Icarus

Oh how your wings took flight
feathers of grey amongst the white,
youthful opulence for all to see
eclipsing the mind's humility,
oh how you soared as summer begun
thinking of ways to scale the sun
See how you were, your plumage new
then in a breath away you flew,
see how you looked at all down below
memory got small but the ego did grow,
feeling on top as the climb begun
feeling as though you could scale the sun
Ears that were deaf to Daedalus call
no time to listen as you walked tall,
you were the present the past didn't know
the mind of the brave in youth's sallow glow,
no time for talking as you sought fun
time to arise and scale the sun
Though in your glory your doom was close by
as those great wings ascended the sky,
the light drew near
but the wings grew weak,
oh how you wished
to here Daedalus speak,
ignominy beckoned before you could run
as you crashed to your death under that sun.
