The departure lounge

The departure lounge

Patiently I waited
amongst fellow passengers
for news on my flight,
around me the world
got in an awful hurry
yet patiently I waited

Anxiously I waited
wondering and fretting
for the news I wanted,
yet a fellow traveller
told me not to worry
as anxiously I waited

Reflectively I waited
on what I'd leave behind
then the heart got heavy,
but the light inside
shone on possibility
whilst reflectively I waited

Contentedly I waited
looking at the sign
departures many but not mine,
new destination for discovery
with my one way ticket
as contentedly I waited

My heavy eyes then opened
to mourners all around
whilst last rites were said,
with that my breath drew heavy
as my flight was called
and no more did I wait.
