The Desert

The Desert

The Old Lady in Red
a thousand years dust,
silent and barren
thirsting in lust,
beggar frowns in the sand
weary and crushed

The red rock, ochre plain
molten snakes in coils of death,
woven into a vast shawl
of russet and olive hue,
by the sun´s golden thread
and the shadow soaked stars
shining air and dew.

The distant devouring flames
dance in the wind´s violent thrust.
the naked drifting moon
hangs silver and red,
in cornflower and slate blue.
