The Devil

The Devil

'Wicked' is supposed to be bad but now it's good,
mother's favourite adjective, me - as though I would
be, no - not me, I'm as good as anyone you can see,
although why you do certain things may be a mystery.

The devil lurked in a corner, sometimes on 'pole,'
'I'm ready for you - I'll pay a dollar for your soul,'
'You  can't have it - it's mine, not to be given away,'
'I'll resist your nasty whims, grabbing, come what may.'

He said: 'I was an angel before I fell - like to return,'
'Many do my work but others would prefer me to burn,'
'Tell you what, I can give you riches beyond your dreams,'
'That earthly life of yours is nothing what it really seems.'

I didn't mean to be like this, out of order - was it you ?
Ruined my life, intervened so there was nothing I could do.
