THE DUCK

THE DUCK

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck,
swims like a duck, then it probably is a duck;
if it lies like a poet, dreams like a poet,
exaggerates like a poet, then it must be a poet,

Someone said: 'Come here and tell me your dreams,'
certainly not - why should I tell you anything?
Ah, the writers of the day record what Boris might say,
and two thousand years ago when someone was led away.

They ask me: 'What was it like in the twenty first century?'
Not so good - we had a pandemic instead of a flood,
although we have had a number of those as well,
but not for the purposes of divine retribution.

I'll let you know about wars - it may be the last one,
how the time disappears when you're all having fun.
