The fact is we have all been that girl
The fact is we have all been that girl
That girl who drunk to much
That girl who went home with a random
That girl who fell in love with the brooding handsome stranger
That girl who allowed her self to be isolated, believing it was love, believing everyone is essentially good and that there in the papers will never be them, ANOTHER WOMAN DEAD
That girl who was assaulted but can’t remember it, so according to the police it didn’t happen
That girl who at what ever age first young drunk ends up losing her virginity,
left dirty on the floor
That girl who believes this is normal behaviour, all her fault
That girl who believes she asked for it
But what about the men and the boys who grow up in the noise of abuse?
Who grow up believing its his right to take a life
Believing it’s his right to blacken the eye of the one’s he says he loves
Believing it’s his right to take out his anger on the innocent soals that were born of him
That man who then says sorry
That man who gets a slap by the courts while terrorising those he vowed to protect
Where is his reckoning?
His responsibility in this?
When we are the ones left dirty on the floor

A really impactful poem, I liked it a lot. A tough topic too, but you displayed it really well. All the best. Hang in there. The Fish of the Sea.
Thank you.
Very serious topic for any woman and man out there - "drunkenness can kill". As for the woman side, the responsibility is the key word for individuals and the whole society. my 2c. Very well written.
Thank you very much Yiyan; really appreciate your comments 😊
