The Faint Smile

The Faint Smile

I knew it was time when your lips moved,
not to speak but Da Vinci would have approved;
I used to ask my mother who said stay awhile,
she answered all of my questions with a faint smile.

I passed my exams, in most of them I had grade 'A,'
unlike most, I knew what I wanted to do anyway,
I applied to Oxford with a precocious CV file,
when they told me I'd been accepted, gave a faint smile.

You travel through life with many terrible events,
it's even worse because most of them don't make sense,
but that look you mustered certainly had the style,
you blew them all away with that faint smile.

When I came out of the womb, there was the grin,
all those nasty things were deflated before they could begin.
