The Football
Football is a funny thing,
Kick about a bit of leather,
To and fro between children,
Then back and forth between men.
Society loves to watch them,
Balls are passed like political affairs,
From pillar to post with little meaning.
If only we could trust the government to hold our wishes,
To the same level we hold a ball hitting the back of a net.
Imagine. Ten years down the line.
Reflect. On the heatwave that took over,
Till the heat came the ususual.
Hot topic of the football,
England might bring the victory home.
Kick it up the pitch,
Shoot, SCORE!
If only Society saw,
This ball we pass between us,
Is little more than a distraction.
From the political issues discussed between us,
Here we deal with Brexit,
Impending sense of Britain's change.
Further afield,
Battle of bombs and missiles.
Threats of passing them, like a football,
The match which ends us all.
Mutually Assured Destruction.
But let's just watch the football,
Let the grown men play with their ball,
Distract us from the real political issues,
That threaten us more than the prospect,
Of it not 'Coming Home'.
