Poem -

The Forgotten Garden

The Forgotten Garden

In the corner of an unkempt garden
To the side of a broken shed,
Where promises of yesteryear
Lie forgotten and dead,
There is a wild and fragile beauty,
Lost to unenquiring minds,
Where the brambles weave their prickly way
And sticky goose grass winds.
Though long since tended by loving hands,
That used to dig
And weed
And prune,
The apple tree, as always grows,
And still the roses bloom.
But, to the things that creep
And crawl
And hop
And jump
And dart
And fly
This is no forgotten, loveless place.
This, to them, is paradise.

Hi Tina! I just wanted to say that I really like your poem, just such a simple write, but its message is so clear to me. Paradise can be so close but, when we are caught up in our heads, we fail to see it from our perspective... Again, loved your write. All the Best and Kind regards. The Fish of the Sea.

Hi Fish. It is all to do with relativity and the fact that if we just took the time to dig a little deeper, to look at the bigger picture, we would find that it is not all about us (life on this planet, I mean). This is a big wide world, it is beautiful, and we share it with so many other species. And of course there is also the fact that beauty is only ever in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you so much for reading and leaving your thoughts. I am glad you like this poem. All the best to you x

Well said Tina! Its so true, we should be grateful for our world and the bigger picture, sometimes we get caught up on the little negatives in life and forget to realise that we, could be so much worse off. Sorry didn't nail your message though, lol poetry and its different ways of being understood... All the Best again. The Fish of the Sea.

There is no message to nail...lol. it is just a poem. My comment to you were just thoughts that kind of go with the theme. It is just a poem about a forgotten garden. Hugs x

Another fantastic write Tina...quite poignant I find..I can imagine the ghost of the lost gardener who once loved the place, pleased that it teems with life, regardless...and also a powerful message that paradise can mean a million different things depending on.perspective. I once wrote about a beetle in a room in the same way...those couple of rooms were his whole universe, unaware that anything else existed. I think if humans really thought about it in the same way, we might understand our place in the universe and that we do not hold any keys and only very limited knowledge.
We are those insects in a tiny corner of a tiny garden in a massive unknown cosmos....and maybe, just maybe, there is a gardener or several...who knows?...pinned for the variety of thoughts this work invoked in me...hugs ?

Awww...Marion!  I remember your poem about that little beetle in the huge room!

You are right in all you say in your comments. It is just a poem about a forgotten garden but in such a place nature always takes over and the whole theme brings onto question many things as you (and Fish) quite rightly point out.

Thank you so much for reading and leaving your thoughts, I am glad you like it. It is alwsys good to see your thoughts in the comments. Keep shining x

Aye, it is all too easy to promise and forget, luckily nature uses every corner it can find (such as our garden🌿). Thank you for this reminder🌱

I'm trying to give five stars but it seems a gremlin is at at work, clearly not a nature or poetry lover.
I'll try again later.
