The Grass Ain't Greener
“The grass ain’t greener”
I don’t care,
I long to venture
Over there.
Â
To where the grass looks long
And lush,
Don’t try and stop me
Oh please; just hush.
Â
Our garden here is nice
But bare,
The flowers in theirs are bright
And rare.
Â
One day I see him standing
In the garden; he’s alone,
I strut slowly then lean over the fence
And “Oops!” I drop my phone.
Â
He picks it up and hands it
Flashing me that charming smile,
I bat my lashes and turn to leave
He says “wait, stay a while”
Â
I hear her roses snarl and hiss
But I don’t give a damn,
These blood red petals and wicked thorns
Won’t keep me from this man.
Â
We laugh and joke and conversate
Our clumsy hands brushing skin,
Don’t be mad at me for this
I dropped my phone; the rest was him.
Â
I’m ever so calculated in my ways
I had it all planned out,
A simple slip between tongue and lip
Left his love for you in doubt.
Â
Once upon a time I would’ve felt bad
But now what can I do?
Why should rich soil be kept from me
But given so easily to you.
Â
We kiss and caress and he lowers me down
Gently; as though I were glass,
And I smile to myself between his tongue and mouth
While I think “how gorgeously green is this grass!”

So true. I wonder, why is it that some people come across something so perfect without even realising, whilst others admire from afar wishing it was theirs?!
Again, such an enticing poem. I really enjoyed reading this!
