The Hearts Burden

We often act like we don't care
Or about what other people think
But the truth does drown us all
And we often slowly sink
The heart wants what the heart wants
Regardless of any rational thought
And we often follow it blindly
Going against all that we were taught
I will be the first to admit
Love has taken me to some dark places
And if you take the time to look
You'll find my sorrow written in these pages
We face the fact that we are stubborn
Insisting that no one can change us
then often reflect in the mirror
With horror and disgust
How did I get this way?
Why do I care so much ?
We ponder, as who we used to be fades into dust
We do stupid things for stupid peopleΒ
Because we think we are in love
And end up watching the ones who really do care
Fly away like doves
There is the occasional lucky few
Who find that real soulmate
But most of us who play that game
End up in a stalemate
it doesn't matter what words we use
To build ourselves up, or prepare to avoid the hurt
We continue to do it again and again
Until we once again end up broken hearted, or we hit pay dirt
And it's not even enough for us
We all share the Hearts Burden
Eternally we will string up the sails
And venture into waters uncertain
truth be told, we all just want to be loved
And we go for the cheese like a rat in a maze
And will do it over and over
Losing track of the days
In a never ending pursuit
Slaves to our own hearts
And if we finally get what we are looking for
We somehow manage to tear it apart
You can't win for losing
The piece back where it started
We are the Hearts burden
The legion of the broken hearted
