The Hustler

The Hustler

After dropping out of college, in January of ’63;
I decided that a Pool Hustler, was what I wanted be!
I hung around the local poolroom, from late morning all through the night;
I had my regular customers, who I always treated right!
.
The secret of successful hustling, is to let them win sometimes;
To win the games for dollars, and throw the ones for dimes!
Of course, I knew my limits, never let my ego swell;
I avoided guys who could beat me, so I always did real well!
.
Some weeks I’d break a hundred, of bucks that I had made;
But as the Spring months came to great us, I felt my aspirations fade!
I saw hustlers had no future, most ending up behind the old eight ball;
So I moved on to greener pastures, hung my cue stick on the wall!
.
.
                                     I was a hustler
                          But I gave up the green felt
                                For lusher ventures

Dear Greg,

Had you not dropped out of college
You might have ended up in the Stock Market
But instead, you wound up in the Supermarket
But you are sweeter than any stockbroker that I have ever known

Love,
Larry xxx
