The idle virtues

A lamentation for love

The idle virtues

Aphrodite as you slumber
a baron feeling came o'er the land
a numbness over virtues beauty
its castle sinking in the sand

A blight did strike the heart of plenty
promising pleasure for the now
ephemeral in their presence
us weanlings suckled on the sow

A silent thief that took the pollen
from the meadows of summer fields
as touch succumbed to all that's lustful
blind to bitter harvest yield

Its serpent tongue prompted pleasure
the apple there to gratify
its nectar made the sweetest honey
bees trapped by venus in the lie.

Lustful hoarders of great confusion
the desert mirage played with the mind
parched and wanting they did crawl
as beauty's face became unkind

Aphrodite as you slumber
our children yearn for your song
to awaken all those idle virtues
and meet our joy in all the wrong.
