Insecurities and Thoughts of a Young Man

Each night before bed
He pondered on the day that had been
Wondering how he’d been seen.
Was he liked?  Was he respected?
Did he deserve respect?
Told third hand that he
Was seen as sweet.
Why were others so different
From him:
And he from them?
Their lives, their families.
Their perception on the World…
He alone, at the end of the day,
Life passing him by,
Feeling awkward, sometimes,
In the company of others,
Yet wanting to express himself
Without embarrassment.
Before going to bed
Re- reading some of his
Posts on social media:
Personal thoughts revealed
And some of the responses
He wondered:
It could be that friends
And work colleagues
Were laughing at him,
Talking about him
Behind his back.
In a strange way that thought
Amused him.
For better or worse
It left him feeling
Rather exposed.
