The Lie

The lie.

The lie you told that tore us apart.
The lie you had told that had shown me who you really were.
The lie that left me with nothing but doubt.
The lie that made me question everything you had ever said to me.

Why did you lie?
I'd like to blame the drugs,Β
You didn't want to upset me,
You thought I would leave,
You couldn't find the way to tell me.

Then it hits me.

The lie that you told hadn't been the first.
The lie that you told came so easy for you.
The lie that you had told was one of many.

How many lies had slid off your tongue?
How many lies did you tell me while you looked into my eyes?
How many promises had you truly broken?

The most painful reality of my questions is that
I will never know the truths behind your lies,
I will never know what you had done behind my back,
I will never know why you lied to me,
And lastly and perhaps the most painful,
I will never know the stranger I've invested so much into.
