The Marching Song

They came in their thousands and marched across the world,
Their war cries echoed in each corner of the globe.
For they danced to the beat of a different drum,
Their flags rippling in the wind and lit by the sun.
Their slogans, their chants filled the spring air,
Defying the taunts and every hostile glare,
They poured into the streets like liquid gold and sapphire,
An ocean of flowers, placards and stars adorned their attire.Ā
For every soul present refused to cower,
Stood tall in the face of those in power.Ā
Against corruption, greed, poverty and austerity,
Side by side they stood in mutual solidarity.
They shook the foundation of even the press,
Who changed their dialogue so to address,
Those who sought justice, fairness and democracy,
Not lies, division and self serving hypocrisy.Ā
For every attempt to divide and conquer,
Was met by a determination that only grew stronger.
They healed each division as they went along,
People came together in unity and song.
For democracy comes from the Greek words ādemos kratisā,
Meaning the āpeople ruleā and they never forgot this.
The battle wasnāt over and they had to keep fighting,
The future was in their hands, they were the uprising.

Thanks Deborah , I was a part of this march and it is something people clearly feel very strongly about as people had come from all over the country to take part ! Many more people turned up than expected , and they have restored my faith in humanity !
