The melon and the lemon

The melon and the lemon

In a little green grocers
At the back of a shelf
Was an lonely old lemon
Sat all by himself
A poor ageing citrus
Away from the rest
Feeling very unwanted
He was well past his best
The worried green grocer
Feeling sorry for him
Put lemon in the basket
That a melon was in
The melon and the lemon
Hit it off straight away
So they thought up a plan
To escape there one day
They knew that nobody
Would buy an old fruit
Unless for a smoothie
Or maybe fruit juice
But melon and lemon
Would curdle for sure
So they tipped over the basket
And rolled out the door
Onto the pathway
They shot down the street
Tripping up grannies
Getting under their feet
They got to the market
Melon looked all around
But lemon had vanished
Nowhere to be found
Devastation felt melon
So heartbroken she cried
So she ended it all
Committing fruit suicide
As a bus fast approached
She jumped under its wheel
Her melon juice squished
From her old melon peel
Screeches came from the tyres
From the bus that had hit her
In a flash lemons life
Turned from sweet into bitter
Their love turned to mush
From uncontrollable lust
Leaving lemon no choice
To also bite the dust
He stood in the road
His eyes closed tight shut
Heart pounding so fast
Feeling sick to his gut
But in a cruel twist of fate
The lemon was saved
And sliced up that night
To make lemonade

The End
