The Monstrous Beast
Once there was a young girl who battled a monstrous beast.
Â
It demolished her dress with its fiery breath and shattered her self-confidence with its size.
Naked tired with a sword in her hand she aimed for the beast’s bitter heart.
its scales rained over her like lifeless shards of confetti and she could no longer sleep in the dark.
She cried to the skies but each scream echoed as if they were hollow,
drowned out by the song of her people who rejoiced for their new found freedom while she cradled her ribs grieving for her own.
She lay scarred on the edge of a cliff staring at the beast’s dull helpless corpse.
Â
Once there was an old woman who defeated a monstrous beast.
Â
It stole her sweet soul with its merciful cries and looted her laughter with its bloody flesh.
Solitary, wilted, and yearning for a happy ever after, she walked hopeful towards the light.
Her village sang her into a deep and everlasting sleep, while the youngest held her hand.
The villager’s prayers went unheard by the Gods, and they were grief-stricken by the loss of their queen
The cradled her body like a priceless artefact mourning for weeks. No one smiled.
Â
The village decided to build her a garden telling their children it was their duty to maintain it.
They created a bible, leather-bound and precious that told of the story that saved their small town.
In it read poems just like this one, preaching of their totem’s bravery, inspiring those that lived on.
Â
One day they would sing of the beast and there queen and how she slayed such a monster and won
But for now the village slept uncomfortably but quiet waiting for that moment to come.
