The Moon
The Moon
My heart is an old dried up weathered moon,
circling a planet that once was called you.
The feelings of love are constantly there,
the attraction holds me locked in place
in an eternally repeating path of despair.
The sun always stays on your other side now,
guarded it hides where I no longer see.
And I exist only in a place where someone
with these feelings should never be.
You never look past the clouds in your sky,
when I do see you I see emptiness in your eyes.
You're my only reason to shine.
But all my efforts that come to you as light
fall upon a silent world that seems only to decline.
Who said what, who did what,
who felt pushed away when the last of the doors shut,
all seem so pointless to know.
You never intended to try, your mind was made up long ago.
All you can see in your sky now is how all this reflects on you
and how you were always alone in everything you tried to do.
In our broken home and your world of depression
I always tried to be the light in your darkest night.
Now I’m just something that’s out there,
wandering beyond reach and flickering out of sight.
It never mattered how much I tried to do,
it was always obscured by a blanket of clouds.
In the cold and so far from my place,
left alone to die in the vacuum of empty space.
