The Needs Of Weeds

The Needs Of Weeds

I thought I'd write a poem,
About flowers on a summer's day.
Then I imagined something else,
And decided to go the other way.

Flowers have been done to death,
Endless poem's about the matter.
Sweet fragrances and bright colours,
About which poet's love to patter.

So I'll write about Japanese Knot Weed,
About stingy nettles and ugly weeds.
It's about time to champion them,
For the garden's unloved have needs.

Weeds! Weeds! Growing everywhere!
The garden's lying in such a mess.
Its beauty violated and replaced,
By unwelcome visitors of ugliness.

Where the hell did they come from,
They were not there late last night.
Its like Day Of The Triffids and look,
That one's moved just out of sight.

An Eden English country garden,
Is now refuge where weeds rejoice.
And now I must finally admit that,
My weeds poem was a wrong choice.

Greg many thanks for your kind and generous comment and I can see your one about tulips and will read soon and other members too.
I read a few of yours recently and more than enjoyed them and full and deserved marks credited sir.
And weeding an overgrown garden is a pain beyond belief for the back and legs too.
Thanks again Greg and enjoy life and 2 days sounds damn good time!

Ah love this Shaun and have to admit that weeds do tend to have the run of my garden ....and not being much of a gardener does mean I often cannot differentiate between weeds and flowers..so will let them just carry on growing... after all a weed is anything that grows just where you dont want it to I guess...Lovely piece !! Pinned to read again and again! Lodigiana x

Lodigiana many thanks and I'm glad its winter for the pesky things have shrunk back and at  St Fagan's Museum where I'm so lucky to work they have a wild garden for the public to view and I must admit it's pretty cool and different. The great team of gardener's love them in their own way for as they say they're all part of nature.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend and we all need a bit of fun and silliness now and again. For we wouldn't be who we are without it.
Hang in there and all that jazzie jazz.

Being Me

Ah...weeds.  I have heard say that a weed is just a flower growing in the wrong place!  When I worked at a garden centre we took delivery of a trolley load of "meadow" plants for a "wild" garden. And so in pots we were selling things like Buttercups and daisies and yarrow. Actually yarrow was being sold in the mainstream section as normal garden plants. They had them in different colours but the amount of people who said, " oh, I do like the white ones." Hmmm...

I love your poem..... and my little garden is full of weeds, mostly those big green leafed things with pretty blue flowers... I tried looking after the potted Camelias but they all died. I tried killing the weeds...yet they survive 🤷‍♀️ x
