The Neighbor Raven

Watching me through the window,
As I watch him in return,
A pensive and strange little fellow
With the darkest black wings of a
Fallen angel as he stands on the wall.

Stoic and calculated, I stand there dumbly
Trying to think of a pet name for him
As he waits to be fed, and I wait for,
His next move, as if we are playing chess
Across the empty bird feeder turned board
Only a few feet away.

Our routine is the same every single day.
He is like the neighbor that comes over
For food and never returns the favor.
My daily visitor, my friend,
The raven.
