The Night

The Night
 
I’ve got the night under my skin
Her song it whispers on the wind
 
Sometimes the night truly devours me
And it is only dawn that sets me free
 
If only you were here beside me
We’ve got a million stars to see
 
The full moon puts me under her spell
Holding many secrets only she can tell
 
I pray faithfully every night unto thee
Take my broken spirit and set it free
 
The night takes me on an endless flight
Till the sun dawns in the morning light
 
I wish you were here to keep me warm
Give me shelter from the oncoming storm
 
Lord would you take away these chains
Bring an end to my heart’s undying pain
 
Surrender can be so bittersweet
But I will never admit self-defeat
 
The night encompasses my feelings inside
On the cosmos forever my spirit will ride
 
The wind sweeps over the sands of time
I’ve got to own my life and make it mine
 
I often get lost in my nocturnal dreams
A place of sweet surrender so it seems
 
The night has wings all of her own
Awaiting the night to carry me home
