The Old (Fashioned) Cinema

I remember the old cinema
IĀ went there sometimes as a child,
And after several years,Ā
As an adult
Shortly before it closed.

It was of the old- fashioned kind
Just a single screen.
We had to queue up outside
And we bought popcorn
And sweets as we entered.

Another nice touch was the curtains
Which covered the screen
And which were drawn back when the film started
And closed when it ended:

Separating fiction from fact..
And I remember there was an interval-
You don't get that anymore.

The films back then seemed to me
To have a special meaning in that place
And we would leave the dark auditoriumĀ
And be struck at how light
It stillĀ was outside.

Fond childhood memories:
Single screen quaint cinemas
superseded by multiplexes.

Sad in a way.
