The rat

The rat
Look at youÂ
You wily beast
Composed of talons
Fur and feet.Â
Quick of wit
And beady eyed
Fast of foot
And full of pride.
Raised on cunning
Hate and smarts
Sustained by the babes
Of your counterparts.
Please tell me
You voracious pest
Is there a heartÂ
Within your chest?
You spread disease
And fear and doubt
You son of famine,Â
Plague and drought.
And yet I wonder
thief of great eminenceÂ
Are you uniqueÂ
In your malevolence?
As though your face
Is clad in hair
It is the face
Of man your wear.
Quick of witÂ
And glassy eyed
Ignorant
And full of pride.
One mans thief
And another mans vermin
Free to deliverÂ
You wicked sermon.
Gluttonous, greedyÂ
And little of worth
You cast your poison
On the earth.
And though it seems
Unfair to blame
A simple rat
For all my pain
It seems as though
Behind all eyes
We’re all just rodentsÂ
In disguise.

I got a bit worried as an animal.lover I was ready to defend the humble rat as I am of the mind that humans are the most evil dirty species on the planet...? Seriously ...great poem ?
Thank you Marion! ?
