The Rock in the River
Stand alone in the crowd
Feel them separate around you
Like a river flowing around a stone
It is easy to just follow them
Not having to make resistance
Not having to be grounded
and firm
I feel like a pariah
Like a stranger to my own life
The days are electric
I can hear and feel the hum
Of a vast central generator
Beaming down waves of light
Of strength and unique purpose
I stay in place to go far
I contemplate to be loud
The upheaval is here
It is quietly deafening
In the crowd I stand firm
Stand my ground
You might notice that anchor
As you seek to accelerate around
I am gazing upward and inward
Where are you going my friend?
There is no where to run
You will only meet yourself
And myself
Again

Hello violet...
Sometimes, don't we just have nowhere we have to go?
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...

I understand your metaphor of the rock in the river to be a description of life hustling and bustling all around you, all these people with so much to do and so little time to do it in. Then there's you, the rock, not wanting to be a part of this, hence the word pariah.
I love the last few lines, almost like you are advising these people to stop and realise where their lives are going, the implication being round in circles.
You express it very well.
thanks Bernie,
I really appreciate your comments and I am trying to limit metaphors
it seems I come up with them alot.. I am going to attempt to do something
a little bit different
Never limit metaphors Violet. Try something different yes but please do not limit your metaphors. If you come up with them a lot that is a gift.
