The scars I endured through time.

I look back on my life,
And how far that I have come.
I finally see the finish line,
For the personal race that I have won.
I fought through my emotions,
Those crazy thoughts in my head.
Even though I lived a life,
Telling myself by 21 I'll be dead.
I see the changes in myself,
In how I interact and speak.
But when I think of my past,
I always tend to feel weak.
Its like I've hurdles to pass,
Some bends that I must take.
In order to get myself in line,
To give my mind a break.
As I started the race I was running,
From the past that I had created.
But now I run for freedom,
Because that reason is now outdated.
As I stop for a bottle of water,
to take a breath or two.
I am asked to attend the emergency stand,
Because you have scars all over you.
I stop and I smile at myself in thought,
Those scars are all that people see.
But for the years that I have been running this race,
I've been running to find the real me.
