The Selfish Crusaders

For as long as I have lived, the world has been on fire

But suddenly, apparently the case is much more dire

In any direction you could see the place alight

But safe behind the firebreak you know we are all right

We all sat here selfishly and let the whole world burn

With our oil and our diamonds it wasn’t our concern

We had one job last November, to maintain the firebreak

But we didn’t, its grown over and we’re no longer safe

Suddenly, its important, they decide we’ll make a stand.

Finally, they have removed their heads from the sand.

The fire is creeping over and desperately they fight,

The gently burning fire that’s nowhere near its might

The rest of the world is fighting as the flames rage and forsake

But we’ll just fight this tepid bit back past the firebreak

A little bit of land that’s safe for us is all we wish

But they all think we’re heroes, where as I know we’re selfish
