"The Sober Me"

"The Sober Me"

"For all these years,
I tried to silence my fears,
with different drugs and the coldest beer,
but that would never suffice.
One was too many,
and a thousand was never enough.
I learned by those how to make my life rough.

Now I spend my days praying,
to succeed in my sobriety staying,
and writing to inspire addicts,
because there are no mathematics,
no equation for the things I did.
All my problems,
from them I hid,
and now I choose to close the lid,
on the old me.
He is in his cage,
banging on those bars,
with such godless rage,
but now I have turned the page,
and the good, sober me,
is now the victor in this war that was waged!"
