The Star Strangled Banner
My stranger, I'm sorry it has taken so long
Naive nationalism
Engrained first through theme song
The land of the free
The home of the brave
Let us not be reminded of the exclusion we crave:
Celeste, I can't imagine the struggles you face
Looks of pity as if there's not ONE human race
And while this segregation has been so misconstrued
I will say that your tears are my tears too
The land of the disabled
The "home" thats been waived
Let us not be reminded of the souls we've enslaved:
Zahra, I can't imagine your life in that camp
Dreams of normalcy in a small tent, scared and damp
And although my vain writing may never reach you,
I will say that your blood is my blood too
The land of the refugee
The groan of enclave
Let us not be reminded of the men we've depraved:
Trayvon, I can't imagine your panic that day
Ignored racism resulting in acquitted foul play
And since years of injustice, I cannot undo
I will say that your death is my death too
The land of the privileged
The home of the slave
Let us all be reminded: Our past can't be forgave.

Nice write Michelle. We need political poems at times to keep us grounded, and as you say, we are of one blood.
Cheers. Byd0nz
