The Sun Sees All

When I look up at the sun
I consider that the same star
Was witnessed a few hours earlier
By starving children in Africa
And now it is shining on me:
Me in my relative comfort.
In twenty four hours that sun
Will have witnessed
Poverty and riches,
Typhoons and calm,
Peace and war,
And habits of different cultures.
And it seems odd to me
As I saunter into town
To buy a coffee
That the one thing
I have in common
With others in less
Fortunate circumstances
Is the witnessesing of
That heavenly body
Which can shed light
On all we do:
Seemingly travel
All around the World
And yet can never intervene
In what we do.
The sun sees all.
